INTERVIEW WITH RICHIE HAWTIN Featured

WHERE DID THE NAME AND THE LOGO COME FROM?

ENTER. Was first inspired by the ritual of people gathering in celebration of a shared idea or belief. Why do people come to Ibiza in the first place? It’s an Island about Music, about Hedonism, about how things can quickly intensify when many like-minded people come together at an event! Also, Stanley Kubrick’s film “Eyes Wide Shut” with it’s clandestine gatherings of hedonism and the feeling of Gaspar Noe’s “Enter the Void” very much inspired the name and the direction of the concept. The name/logo ENTER. Is an invitation to step into something new, while the . punctuates that as a challenge and provides you with  a “point” of entry.

WHY ENTER. WHY NOW?

After an incredible and life-defining relationship with Sven and the Cocoon family on the island, i felt the time was right to develop my own vision on what an Ibiza experience might be.

Ibiza is a destination for people from all walks of life looking to escape and celebrate. ENTER. Will give people an entry into an environment that connects many of the things that i love : Music, Technology, Japanese Sake, art, entertainment and design. As Ibiza is a crossroads of people from all over the world, ENTER. Will be a crossroad of experiences!

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE CONCEPT OF ‘MUSIC. SAKE. TECHNOLOGY. EXPERIENCE’

In our scene we are all tied together first by the musical experiences we have shared over the years. Many of those experiences have been fuelled by alcohol, other stimulants or just the pure excitement of being involved in this often crazy and vibrant scene. Technology has always enveloped those experiences, from the way we perform, to the way we stay in contact and now, even in the way we consume music. In my mind, the combination of these three things, Music, Sake and Technology can only lead to one outcome, an incredible night out that in first and fore-most fun, exciting and hopefully even inspiring! Isn’t that the type of experience that we’re all looking for?

ENTER. AIMS TO BRING A ‘NEXT LEVEL EXPERIENCE TO IBIZA? WHY IBIZA?

I think Ibiza has always played an important rol in spreading new musical ideas across the Globe. Each year thousands of clubbers descend onto the Island, hear their favourite DJ’s play, discover new songs, connect with new friends and take these experiences back home, often thousands of miles away. The music and experiences that they take with them spread like pollen, infecting and inspiring their friends around the globe who weren’t even on the island. I hope that after this year the pollen that spreads will be connected to the moments that they have at ENTER.

It is my hope that combining many different elements together I can heighten the experience of the audience and place a significant memory into their subconscious.

THE CURATION OF ENTER. REFLECTS A DIFFERENT TAKE ON THE UNDERGROUND SOUND OF NOW.
WHAT IS THE EVENT’S POINT OF DIFFERENCE MUSICALLY?

ENTER. Has  five distinct musical zones, each bringing together friends and performers with shared musical beliefs and styles. Generally ENTER.Minus delves into the more refined sound of today’s further developing Techno sound with residents like Paco Osuna, Gaiser, Matador, Hobo and guest list such a Dubfire, Josh Wink, and Marcel Dettmann. ENTER.Kehakuma focuses more in the current House scene with residents Magda, Nick Curly, Barem and guest such as Maya Jane Cole, tINI, and Nina Kraviz. ENTER.Air is our open-air chill out terrace on the roof of Space where you will experience ambient atmospheres from the likes of Daniel Miller, Carsten Nicolai, Mark Ernestus, Global Communications, Atom Heart and others, many who have never played on Ibiza or at least do not often have the chance to play extended ambient sets. The post midnight vibe in ENTER.Sake will be orchestrated by Japanese DJ Hito, playing eclectic Asian inspired grooves and will be also be the site of our 10pm-Midnight pre-party where I’m inviting close friends (who all happen to be world class well known DJ’s) to play in an intimate surrounding fuelled by my favourite Japanese Sake’s! Expect to see Magda, Maya Jane Coles, Nina Kraviz, Paco Osuna, Francois K. and more! ENTER.interakt rounds off the options with the audio/visual experience being controlled by YOU, the audience, with our newly developed SMUDGE iPhone app.

Each week ENTER. Brings together a unique group of electronic music friends who are all at the top of their game. The energy and excitement which is created when we all gather together is infectious and can only be the basis for a series of truly incredible experiences!

IS THERE A SPECIFIC ENTER. DATE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Man, to have the opportunity to play every Thursday on Ibiza at my own party 12 weeks in a row is exciting enough! Each week I get to play music with friends, many of them staying with me at my Villa, hanging, catching up and sharing more crazy nights/days together on the island!!! But for sure I’m very excited about the special Väth & Hawtin double whammy in August, when we’ll play together twice in one week, On Monday August 27th on the terrace at Cocoon @ Amnesia and then at ENTER. On Thursday August 30th !

It’s both Sven’s and my mission to create the most incredible experiences possible for our audience, and putting us together twice in one week is sure to spiral completely out of control! This will go beyond any Ibiza Club politics and be a celebration of music and friendship.

Also, i can wait for our August 23rd party when I’ll be playing the entire night with very special guest GRIMES. Claire is a fellow Canadian and her live show is an incredible mix of pop electronics, sensuous whispery vocals all over intense, almost Techno-like beats... it’s going to be a stormer! And then on September 13th you’ll see the joining of forces between two of the most exciting parties on the Island... that “day & night” event will probably go a little further than others!

Each artist performing at ENTER. demonstrates how rich the world of electronic music has become. Claire brings together many different influences creating her own unique interpretation of what electronic music can be. Grimes live is something that must be experienced phisically and makes total sense within the ENTER. enviroment.

ENTER. INCLUDES THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SPACE SUNSET TERRACE INTO A TECHNOLOGY AREA.
HOW DO THOSE ATTEDING INTERACT WITH THE LOCATION?

Our Technology Terrace is actually controlled by YOU! Using our new iPhone app, SMUDGE, people coming onto the terrace will be able to ‘take control’ of several audio & light emitting Nodes scattered around the room. Smudge will allow each participant to interact with their Node by manipulating timing, tuning and delay parameters through a unique circle interface on their iPhone. In affect the light and sounds you experience while on the terrace will be crowd sourced and you will be party in control of your own experience...isn’t that what really is all about?

As electronic music continues to develop around the world it becomes more important to invite people into its very core, where music technology and ideas interplay to create unique and wonderful new worlds.

ENTER. IS ALSO THE NAME OF YOUR NEW CONCEPT FOR AN ARENA AT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS – CREATED AND CURATED BY YOU.
HOW WILL YOU TRANSFER THE EXPERIENCE FROM IBIZA TO THE WORLD?

With the new explosion of interest in Electronic music being felt around the world, our ENTER.festival stages will be a way to invite the newly initiated to step into a deeper sound of electronic music that we all know and love. The plan is to make these stages an alternative to the watered down generic pop fuelled music that is being tagged as ‘EDM’ and give us the opportunity to show the greater depth and creativity that we have all come to associate with our vibrant scene.

As we like to say, TAKE THE NEXT STEP!
