Upon returning to the UK after an amazing summer in Ibiza - his fourth consecutive season, you’d think Alex Wolfenden would be ready to take break. Not so for this talented DJ and Producer, who is becoming even more highly sought after around the globe. Continuing his long-standing residency at Liverpool’s Circus alongside head honcho Yousef, Alex is also gearing up for a hectic fifth annual tour of Australia . South America is next on the list followed by a string of dates across the USA , to coincide with the Miami Music Conference.
2009 in Ibiza was a highly successful year for Alex, holding down two of the most revered residencies on the globe with We Love… Sundays at Space and the famous Café Mambo. Add to this his own weekly Cafe Mambo Show on Galaxy Radio, with over three million listeners and you’ve got one very busy DJ/Producer. Throughout the summer, Alex shared the booth with Cassius, Tiefschwarz, Greg Wilson and Ben Watt at Space to name a few and at Café Mambo, Kenny Dope, Basement Jaxx and Faithless played by his side.
Alex – who began DJing as a teenager at legendary Liverpool club Cream, building up an impressive music collection whilst managing the ever-popular Playmusic record shop in Leeds - cites his influences as Laurent Garnier, Luciano and DJ Sneak. Production-wise Ricardo Villalobos is an inspiration.
Rather than get lost in certain styles and genres of music, Alex moves freely across all spectrums, focusing on the vibe of the crowd and the space he is playing. From an emotional, musically versatile sunset mix, merging classical, chillout and deep house as mid-afternoon turns to sunset and into night.. or a seamless stream of twisted 80s, future disco and electronic groove in a club, his musical range is varied to say the least.
With a string of productions to his name already, Alex – has worked with Nic Fanciulli, MYNC Project, Yousef and has also remixed international artists such as Fat Boy Slim. Watch out for Alex’s forthcoming release on 2020 vision under the alias of Acid Mondays.
Musically, Alex says he finished the summer in a great place, ready to move onto the next challenge – or as he uniquely puts it, ”I’ve got a really nice taste in my ears at the moment. I woke up the other day and my ears had written me a thank you note for looking after them this summer and I was very pleased.” And you can’t get much more Wolfenden than that…
