Last Friday June 15th Space Ibiza, considered the best club in the world, opened its first European franchise in Ciutadella’s town. A long-awaited Opening by the Menorca public and tourists, who attend this first night of what is sure to be the beginning of a long run of successes.
Located in the privileged enclave of Puerto de Ciutadella, the club’s structure and interior design recalls the legendary Ibiza Club Terrace. Consisting of two terraces, one as a hall and an upper one taking Menorca’s style, Space Menorca has a total area of 850 m² with capacity for 600 people. Just as Space Ibiza has been voiced with renowned Funktion One sound system, developed especially for the room, so did Space Menorca. In addition, the spectacular Martin brand lighting and the mapping video projections enhanced the club’s stone walls, creating a distinguished atmosphere in the Balearic Isle.
A working party led by Ibiza’s club owner Pepe Roselló, part of the animation team and the Foc i Fum group, which travelled from the neighboring isle to assist and support local entrepreneur Nico Vilà’s initiative.
For that special night we were lucky to have Gelabert’s performance, one of the actual DJs with more projection in the Menorca scene, soon to be Ciutadella club’s resident. Despite his youth, he has a long background in international festivals such as Miami UMF and clubs as Row14 and Catwalk in Barcelona or Cosmos Sevilla, among many others. He was responsible for the night’s opening; his fresh House sound gradually heated up the environment, especially in the main room, and raised the maximum till he finally delivered it to the German DJ and producer Kurd Maverick, night star and famous for his remixes for artists as Pet Shop Boys, Basement Jaxx, Robbie Williams, Bob Sinclar, Erick Morillo or Technotronic. Its strong House, creativity and impeccable technique left us with our mouths opened and a fully delivered public in a set composed by great songs, reaching the crucial moment with a spectacular version of the New Order’s classic Blue Monday. Meanwhile, the Foc i Fum group delivered flowers and gifts to the guests with their stilts, characterization and contagious joy. With a full dance floor in a completely festive and celebratory atmosphere, most authentic Space Ibiza resident Paul Darey ended the night session with all the energy that characterizes each of his sets, making us dance till the end of the night, making us to want more.
Space Menorca continued on Saturday with the weekend’s celebration, inaugurating the party Delicious led by DJ and producer Juan Alcalde, better known as Spider and night’s resident, in good company with important guests and performances. It was the first of a great summer programming that will include some of the most celebrated artists of the moment.
With this Opening, and continuing with the club’s international expansion plan, there already are two Space Ibiza franchises opened in the world; the first one located in the Egyptian town of Sharm El Sheikh, followed by two more inaugurations planned for the 2012 second semester, one in the superclub of over 10,000 m² located in the Camboriú resort (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and the other one in Dubai (UAE).
