Kehakuma’s mind and soul, Nick Curly Featured

Nick Curly is as excited as ever to lead as resident DJ one more season at Kehakuma, one of the most successful parties on the island thanks to its mix of electronic styles wrapped under the “underground” tag. The German DJ and producer, paradigm of the so-called “sound of Mannheim”, released his first LP in March this year, the introspective ‘Between the Lines’. He replied to our questions about what it’s like getting into the season once again and how Kekahuma and Richie Hawtin’s new party, ENTER. are going to fuse together.

When you think about being resident at Kehakuma again, what do you feel?

I am really happy to have been a part of it from the very beginning. The night has only been going for a couple of years, with a truly great season in 2011 behind us, and this year I’m confident that it will get even better with Richie on board from July 5th with his ENTER. project!

Do you think there are going to be any challenges at this year’s Kehakuma?

If you mean in terms of a challenge between Kehakuma and ENTER. then no, definitely not – we work together and complement each other perfectly. Kehakuma is part of the whole ENTER. project, and I’m also a part of Richie’s ENTER. campaign and I can only see positives in this season.

How do you keep your energy levels up week after week?

I do lots of sport during the week; play tennis every morning when I’m at home, and go to the gym from time to time, which is something that has become very important to me in order to balance the party weekends.

How do Kehakuma and ENTER fuse together?

Kehakuma will take over the Terrace at Space during the Enter. project – the two only really fuse from July 5th to September 20th. On the Terrace we’ll be playing a bit more house. Richie has curated the line-ups with Kehakuma, and he then presides over the main room. Richie is also bringing a new Sake Bar concept to the venue to coincide with the project, which offers something a bit different and new.

How do you think ENTER/Richie Hawtin is going to transform Kehakuma’s concept?

I don’t think he aims to transform the Kehakuma concept, but the main change – in comparison to  previous years – is that DJs like Magda and Barem for example will play on the Terrace with me now. Richie Hawtin is a professional person, if he was to transform anything, I’m 100% sure he would do it in a very tasteful way.

What do you tell yourself before getting ready for Ibiza?

There’s nothing to be said really, I always look forward to  going back for another season, but perhaps something like ‘lose your mind, find your soul?’
