The young DJ and producer Edu Imbernon will be at Space on Monday 11th June to celebrate Cr2 label’s fourth release of the Space Ibiza CD with MYNC. He had already teemed up with the British label for a compilation together with UNER and Coyu. The young DJ from Valencia, who just turned 23, has not stopped rising in the competitive ranking of the best DJs since the release of the great song "El baile alemán" in 2009. Edu Imbernon has answered our questions about playing at Space on Monday for Cr2, repeating at the Womb party the next day and fulfilling his dream of deejaying in the best club in the world.
It seems that nowadays all you need to create a hit is a computer. You did a Masters Degree in Sound. Did you think that having an academic foundation could help you?
I would say that all you need is a computer to create an electronic music track, but high technical skills are needed to create a hit. In my opinion, all training is good, it will always add to the total, so I think that was my aim when I studied sound.
What are you most looking forward to about playing at Space Ibiza?
Space is the best club in the world in my opinion, it’s always exciting to play there, especially on the Terrace, it’s my favourite room, it has a special magic!
Have you got anything planned for Monday?
I’ll improvise, it all depends on the type of crowd and how the night goes.
You will be playing not only on Monday, but also on Tuesday. Will there be differences between the sessions on each day?
Sure there will be differences - I imagine the kind of audience will be different on both days. Playing at Space two days in a row is something new to me, and the truth is that I’m really looking forward to it!
Do you think that playing at Space or in Ibiza in general can help boost a DJ’s career?
Absolutely, Ibiza is the capital of electronic music in the summer, you never know who may be watching you and in this life being in the right place at the right time is everything, many of the gigs I have during the year are through promoters that have seen me in on the island in the summer.
What will you do between one day and the next? How do you unwind when you are in Ibiza?
Most probably I will rest and have a barbecue at home with my friends, to recharge my batteries. Relaxing in Ibiza is an easy thing - I live in the middle of the mountain in a beautiful house, so a day relaxing at home cooking and lounging by the pool, or I would also say going to see the sunset at Es Vedrà with a bottle of wine and good company.
You have just turned 23 and you are already well known on the island, as well as gaining new fans every day. What do your friends say about having an increasingly renowned DJ as a friend?
I think they are impressed, especially friends of many years. I still remember my first trip to Ibiza with one of my best friends when I was 16, and after stepping into a club for the first time saying to him from the other side of the barrier: "I will be here in a few years" - and that is how it’s been, it’s a dream come true.
