Glitterbox’s Disco Balls are hanging again

Glitterbox at Space Ibiza

Following its incredible Opening Party earlier this month, Glitterbox continued to stake it’s claim as one of the most original, diverse and spellbinding Ibiza parties with another exceptional event last night.

Chief among the attractions of Glitterbox of course are its lineups, with last night’s party boasting an exceptionally deep pool of house and disco talent. Entering Space Ibiza, it quickly became apparent from talking to a few other likeminded clubbers that the prospect of seeing Sandy Rivera play under his Kings Of Tomorrow moniker along was enough to convince them that it was going to be a night to remember.

Opening the Sunset Terrace, Ibiza veteran Andy Baxter demonstrated why he’s held in such high regard both on and off the White Isle, moving from downtempo to more energised beats as his set progressed. The art of the warm-up DJ has been lost at many Ibiza parties, with many showing no restraint at all, banging out inappropriately tough music from the off. Baxter though demonstrated that when executed properly, a warm up set can be paramount to the success of a night.

Over on the Terraza, FCL’s set evidenced their deep knowledge and love for timeless house and disco music. You rarely see the Belgian duo without frequently collaborator Lady Linn these days, and so it was that the songstress was one stage through the majority of their set, her voice sounding particularly impressive on the FCL-produced ‘Can We Try’.

Lovebirds will be well known to many for his huge hit ‘Want You In My Soul’ alongside Stee Downes, a record that made an impact far beyond the soulful house scene and became and anthem in clubs across Ibiza and the rest of the world.

What may be less well-known to some is that he was also one half of Knee Deep which he formed way back in 1998. Anyone doubting his house heritage need only look at the exemplary Knee Deep catalogue - many of which were dropped at Glitterbox - for proof of his credentials. His set on the Sunset Terrace was flawless, and packed full of the kind of soulful, vocal records that evoked smiles and high-fives wherever you looked.

As Kings Of Tomorrow, Sandy Rivera has produced a simply breathtaking amount of timeless house records, and to see him play a set under that name was an unmissable event, for me and clearly for many others in attendance. He didn’t disappoint, soaring vocals seemingly reflecting off the myriad Glitterball’s hanging above the Terraza, before collaborator April joined him onstage. It’s inspiring to watch and listen to live performers of this calibre, and by now rapturous crowd responded accordingly.

On the strength of this night alone, Glitterbox looks as if it could be the beating heart of quality music in Ibiza this season... Buy your tickets for Glitterbox at Space Ibiza and dance with Todd Terry, Breakbot and more artists the next Friday 26th
