On Sunday, May the 25th, Kehakuma took the chance of We Are FSTVL’s second edition in London to offer a representative line-up of the party’s philosophy and values, in addition to its intrinsic mission of promoting quality music.
By the time the festival gates opened at 9AM, the sun was already shining without the slightest trace of clouds. A privileged sky considering that good weather is at heads or tails in the British capital, and definitely a positive omen of a day packed with good vibrations. Johnny Bloomfield was in charge of opening the stage with his downtempo House, which was followed by Marino Canal, a young Spanish artist whom you’ll surely hear from much more in a not-so-far future.
Kehakuma resident Javi Bora did not have to wait long to get behind the wheel of the dancefloor. It was 1pm when the Majorcan producer showed his class on the decks, mixing classics such as Ron Trent’s 'Kids at Play' or Chez Damier’s 'Untitled EP', as well as playing some of his recent releases with Robsoul.
After his one hour and a half set, Javi passed the reins to one of the most respected and valued DJs of the international scene: Zip. The owner of the legendary Perlon label demonstrated that experience is a powerfull tool: he was able of lowering the dancefloor’s musical pulsations close to cardiac arrest levels, to which he launched a gradual crescendo of tension, record after record. Definitely a master-class of how to effectively handle a set in which each vinyl played was as unsung and mysterious as the previous one.
DJ Koze took over at 4PM, another of the festival’s, and Kehakuma’s, main courses. Known for his wide musical spectrum, the leader of Pampa Records did not falter one minute during his set, much to the delight of an audience that was little by little packing the tent up to its flag.
With the stage about to hang the “sold-out” sign came Nina Kraviz’ turn on the decks. The Russian lady of House music, or for this occasion it better be said Techno, didn’t leave anyone indifferent. Her impeccable curation of solid tracks proved the seriousness with which this artist always takes on her sets, also with enough time for her to indulge in a more Housey vibe as with DJ Boom’s 'Can I Kick It'.
The command of the Kehakuma stage was shortly taken over by Levon Vincent, surely one of the most original producers of the last few years internationally. The New Yorker presented a varied set in which he mixed crude and purist House with some more atmospheric tracks. A set apt for the Festival’s most experimented ear buds.
Jus-Ed, also the owner and leader of Underground Quality, the label that kicked off Nina’s and Levon’s careers, among other artists, had the chance to play while the dusk was setting in, a special moment in which the American artist was able to provide a well-cared deep house session.
The Organ Grinder, a regular of labels such as 4Lux and Catapult, was in charge of putting the icing on the cake of a day packed with good music. This artist from Cardiff closed the Kehakuma stage during the second and last day of the festival with an energetic set which rocked back and forth between grungy House and cleaner Techno.
After more than 14 hours of music, the dancefloor at the Kehakuma stage was marked by thousands of footprints. These are irrefutable proof of the good reputation the party has nowadays, and a good example of how quality music prevails above anything else.
From Space Ibiza we want to thank once again the whole of the We Are FSTVL team for their excellent work and support they have given us during this edition. We hope to see you again next year
