Iconic global Club brand, Space Ibiza suavely made its way onto the Sydney clubbing scene calendar for yet another formidable event presented by Paul Strange Presents, taking place at the Greenwood Hotel on New Year's Day.
With a line-up, which included Yousef, Crazy P Sound System, Audiojack, Javi Bora, DJ S.P.Y,Jonathan Ulysses and even more, meant that the characteristic Iberian techno and house sound was definitely in full effect on New Year's Day in Sydney.
Replicating the attributes of such an Iconic club like Space Ibiza, is always one of the most difficult tasks to achieve. What Space Ibiza NYD was able to do though was both amplify the sheer boldness of what Space Ibiza stands for, while also maintaining a true standard in real quality music, which is at the heart of Space Ibiza's ethos. The beauty of Space NYD this year though was they were also able to add their own delightful twist to the mix and offer so much more for the patrons, whilst really trying to maintain a more intimate vibe associated with Space Ibiza.
Space Ibiza NYD not only took stage in Greenwood Hotel's main courtyard (otherwise known on the day as the iconic branded Terrace) but also featured several different rooms all featuring their own unique sound and atmosphere. The Bass Drop room featured the headlining drum and bass mastermind DJ S.P.Y who skilfully showed that he was able to combine beautiful, orchestral tracks whilst mashing in the known rolling mixes, which S.P.Y utilises for capturing the emotions of the crowd. The Townhouse Silent Disco arena offered all your favourite house classics and anthems from over the last decade from a host of local artists including Husky, Illya and Matt Roberts to name a few. Whilst the Musik Matters room featured Ben Ashton, Garth Linton and many others also delivered a host of smooth house sounds and upfront beats from some of the best local talent in Sydney. The Switch room also was a great addition with the likes of James Taylor and Leoch leading the charge in the smaller but still very inviting setting. In all, definitely a real bonus definitely seeing so many local artists delivering so much pleasurable music to the crowd's ears and really covering such a broad spectrum of varied, yet still innovative music within so many sets.
Evidently, though, the true magic definitely happened in the courtyard. Jonathan Ulysses, Javi Bora and Audiojack all smashing down up-front sets to the crowd in style, whilst Yousef was simply sensational as he was able to finish off the night in style, bringing his seductive groove and swing of classic house to the crowd whilst powering out bursts of energetic techno to end the day on a real Balearic high.
Through and through this was definitely a party that bought out the best elements of partying in summer in Sydney. Bring on next year.
