JAVI BORA KEHAKUMA RESIDENT Featured

javi bora kehaHello Javi. How are you?

Everything's good, thank you. Enjoying this wonderful island called Ibiza and this summer that seems to be moved.

What have you been up to this week?

This week I've come from doing a set at a party Space Ibiza On Tour, the international tour of Space Ibiza, at Station Club (Zurich). It was fun, also I ran into a couple of my producer friends. During the week I took some days of vacation in Formentera, the paradise, one of my favorite places to visit for its crystalline waters and for the good vibe that's there. And this Saturday I'm playing at Kehakuma again at Space Ibiza, where I maintain a residence and where I'm having g a really great time, enjoying this great party where the most important this is good music.

You've mentioned to us that you've been on holiday...It's not usual for a DJ to take vacation days at the beginning of the season, don't you think?

Hahahaha... It's always good to have some vacation days. I have a custom to go for a week to Formentera at the beginning of the summer and gain strength for the long season. It's the perfect place to do it and I prefer doing it now and not in the middle of the summer as you've said well, is more difficult.

Could you explain to us a bit about your career?

I'm a guy that gets up and lays down thinking about music. At 13 years old I started to play the drums and since then I've been linked by body and soul to music. I formed part of various percussion groups but for many years I've based all of my musical activity in my performances as a DJ and in producing in the studio.
Outside of the music scope I'm a pretty simple guy who likes to enjoy friendships and family, a lover of good food and the small pleasures in life. I like the cinema a lot and various sports like football, tennis and motorcycling. Primarily I live life with humor and positivity and try to enjoy it 100% day aftet day.

Where do you live?

I'm living the summer season in Ibiza and I spend the winter in Mallorca. I take advantage of the summer to enjoy the magic of the white island and relate with the whole musical movement that's here, as well as producing every week. In the winter I take advantage of Mallorca's tranquility to have long sessions in the studio trying to bring out the best of me in order to transfer it into my productions.

How did you become a resident of Kehakuma?

Last year, I played at a party in OFF Sonar, I met the manager of Bookings from Space Entertainment, the international agency of Space Ibiza. This winter Space proposed for me to work with them; they liked the projection that had been taken on high level labels like Robsoul, OFF Recordings, 2020Vision and Liebe Detail among others. Also, they had seen me play live and therefore already knew how my live sessions were. They also had my references and apparently bet on me.

Is this your first experience in Ibiza?

No, it's not my first experience in Ibiza. The first time I played on this island was a couple of years ago, summer 2005, in the old club Penélope. After that session I've gone to dj in the majority of the main rooms of the island. Yes, this is the first year that I have such an important residence like the one at Kehakuma.

Which DJs and producers have served as an inspiration to you?

The truth is there have been many. With time you are influenced by different artists. When I began to dj I was influenced by American house that they made at the time. Artists like Kerri Chandler, Mateo & Matos, Chez Damier, Ron Trent, Johny Fiasco, DJ Rasoul, and DJ Sneak formed a big part of my vinyl collection. Labels like Distant Music and Siesta as well influenced me a lot. Later some producers inspired me such as Henrik Schwarz, Moodymann and Soundstream.

How would you describe your sets at Kehakuma?

In Kehakuma as in other gigs I play mostly House influenced by classic old school and deep house without falling into the commercial. I like to maintain a sound that becomes groovy, deep, classic and at the same time a little jazzy.

What could we say about Kehakuma?

Kehakuma is fantastic. It's a party that has the main objective to offer really good music and quality with first level international DJs and with new DJs that are great producers and that have a huge projection. What else can you ask of a DJ? Kehakuma is perfect! A party where you can build up a session in a spectacular room like the one in Space Ibiza. Also, the party has a really beautiful vibe, a vanguard concept that I love and an aesthetic that's unmatched.

Which projects are you working on currently?

Now I'm going to put out two new discs together with my colleague Le Vinyl by Robsould and by Holic Trax. On Robsoul it will be the second EP that I edit. It's a label that I like very much and that I feel very identified by. It's a release with 4 tracks 100% Classic House Music aimed for the dance floor and with a lot of groove. Also, on Holic Trax will be our song called "Classic Vibes". It's out on vinyl and digital on a VVAA called Tom Tam Club pt2 that has turned out complete.

You work with various labels, why?

Yes, I edit on various labels. I always try to put out the discs on labels that represent my particular vision of electronic music and that they be labels of high level. I've edited on labels such as 2020 Vision and Robsoul that I believe pretty much define me as an artist both on my deepest side as on my dancing side. Additionally on other labels that I like a lot like OFF Recordings, Liebe Detail, Catwash Records, Hudd Traxx... Also on Defected that has a great weight inside the international dance music and who also works with good artists that I highly value. Basically I look for good international labels that I like and that want to edit my tracks.
