Diario de Ibiza presents an exhibition of the artist Elmyr d'Hory’s own paintings as a tribute to these 36 years after his death
On Monday March 4th Diario de Ibiza calls a press conference at 12'30am hosted by Mr. José Roselló Prats, accompanied by Mr. Mariano Lloret, at its showroom on the occasion of Elmyr d’Hory’s art exhibition from March 5th at 20'00h until March 22nd with free assistance.
On March 6th the auditorium from the same showroom will screen the film "F for Fake" (1974) directed by Orson Welles at 8PM for all assistants to continue being inspired by the artist's professional career. Far from being considered a traditional documentary, the film supports the artist's brilliance and presents us with the dilemma about the value of art, masterpiece or forgery, reality or imagination.
Born in 1906 into a wealthy family from Budapest, the World War II deprived him of his inheritance. Becoming an injustly Nazi prisoner for his alleged Jewish origin, escaped from the concentration camp becoming stateless. After the war he settled in Paris and began his work in the style of the Impressionists. This led him to start an adventure around the world where his works are leaving behind him a disputed testimony about their authenticity. Later, he moved to the island of Ibiza, which welcomed him, and being considered by the artist as his home. Pursued by law and after living 16 years in the magical island of Ibiza, where he continued his work and establishing friendship with many Ibiza residents, Elmyr d'Hory died on December 11th, 1976.
An exhibition with the artists’ own paintings as a tribute to these 36 years after his death. In the words of Elmyr d’Hory, "It is the viewer's eye and where the work is placed that gives the authenticity letter to a painting”.
